Books Read February 2011

Another month went by, and fast it went. With plenty to do before my internship, there was less time for reading.

Crush it! by Gary Vaynerchuk is a great book, short enough to read in an day or two, but with enough ideas to keep you going back to it for months. If you want to become an entrepreneur, start a text or video blog, or just want to get some ideas this book is on your must-read list. Gary shares his experiences from his site, Wine Library TV which is the most viewed wine show and generates a fine income for Gary. If you want to start to monetize your passion, buy this book - you won't be disappointed.

Northern Lights (Or, in the USA, The Golden Compass) from the His Dark Materials series of Philip Pullman. I saw the movie back when it came out in 2007, and since then decided that I need to read the books. Undoubtedly, the book is a master piece and I wasn't able to put it down. Pullman is a master and created with this series a fantastic universe, where humans have daemons (your spirit in animal form), ice bears, witches, cliff ghasts and other imaginative creatures exist besides humans. Add in some Steam Punk elements like Zeppelines, Hot Air Ballon, adventures in the Arctic and you have a seriously excellent book, in one class with Tolkien - if not better.

After being to Amsterdam last year August and visiting the Anne Frank house, it was just a question of time to read this book. It is an interesting story, very intimate as it was a diary, and showcases how life in the 2nd World War was for those hiding from the Germans. It is important in my opinion that we not forget these times and how they came about, and thus this book helps to keep the terrible time in our mind.

Disclaimer: I will be retiring to the Bahamas if you buy one of the books via the Amazon link above, because the riches it pours over me makes Bill Gates look like a poor wretch.
